CRIMINAL out now!1/6/2019 the new ep from spectra: criminal out now! After a few years of working on this project, I have finally released CRIMINAL. This will be the second studio I have put out. Thank you to everyone who has supported me this far. I hope this EP will connect with you and I hope you enjoy listening! Available on all major platforms now!
CRIMINAL is about knowing who YOU are, remembering your worth in times of doubt and rejection. You may be made to feel like a criminal by society, but you're also just a criminal for knowing what you're doing, and believing in yourself. CRIMINAL is the second studio EP released by Spectra. Spectra (Stephanie Zoumaras) recorded the EP in the south side of Chicago, Illinois. The EP opens with the dramatic, orchestral themed "How I Dance", a story about prescription medication and the effects it has on lifestyle and relationships. It is the only slow/sad song on the EP, where Spectra sings about a relationship effected by mental illness and the drug use associated with it. The second song, "Limo (Watch Me)" (the only single from the EP) is a pop/dance track about fame, glamour and luxury. Spectra sings "Watch Me / Through the Limo baby / Watch Me " in reference to the celebrity lifestyle. The title track "Criminal" follows, a song about being made to feel like a criminal by society because you know what you want to do and have the confidence within yourself to pursue your dreams. The term 'criminal' is twisted and put into a positive meaning by Spectra. "Only Other Lover (Darling)" is a reggae/pop tune with references to sexuality. Spectra sings "Darling dont you know that I want her to? / Even though I know it makes you so confused" about the confusion surrounding sexuality. Spectra says this ties into the whole concept of CRIMINAL; about being outcasted because of sexuality, and later overcoming this. The final track, "Prime" is a feel-good pop/band song about feeling like you are in the 'prime' of your life, and discovering what you are meant to do and fulfill your own destiny.
